Artist’s Statement

Drawing and painting as a young girl, she has always been driven to create things of beauty, including in the garden and on any surface with any media, including sculpture. In college, she sold many of her drawings, but ended up on a completely different career path, traveling globally in her work for the Congress. After retiring, she immediately went back to her art and is inspired by her travels and her own prolific gardens. She paints from photos she has taken in her travels, particularly where she has found serene hidden spots tucked away in European cities, towns, and villages. Her work is representational and in oils on linen canvas.  A common underlying theme of her art is the juxtaposition of nature’s beauty and human intervention with exquisite design. She has been drawn to painting old world windows and doors adorned with flowers, beckoning the viewer to wonder about the mystery inside. She also has painted a series of flower shops, shop fronts, and European city scenes from her travels, as well as still life, and now pet portraits, where she captures the personalities of beloved pets. Most of her paintings involve lots of color and evoke happiness, mystery, and tranquility.
