I began drawing and painting at age 9 and continued through my graduate studies. After following a completely different career path for the next 33 years, supporting the U.S. Congress and traveling the world in work and play, I retired and began taking studio painting and later oil painting classes at Virginia’s Lorton Arts Center and then privately, joined the Springfield Art Guild in 2012, the Fairfax Art League in 2013, the Vienna Arts Society in 2014, and the Art Guild of Clifton (VA) in 2015. I have studied with Suzanne Clark, Diane Frykman, Marni Maree, and Trisha Adams.
I often paint places I have actually traveled to that have inspired me–so I photograph them and when I return home, paint from my photos in oils. I paint windows and doors of Franceand Italy, as well as flower shops in Paris. I also paint still life and landscapes—mostly representational and sometimes nearly photorealistic—including florals from my own prolific gardens.
My works have been in many shows and exhibits sponsored by the Vienna Arts Society, Fairfax Art League, Springfield Art Guild, Art Guild of Clifton, and Lorton Arts Center. Many of my paintings have been juried (selected by a judge to be included from a large pool) into:
- two shows in Fairfax, Virginia (Spring 2013 Spotlight Show and Fall/Winter 2013 Celebrate the Season of Art Show),
- the Springfield Art Guild 2014 and 2015 shows at Green Spring Gardens, and
- theVienna Arts Society’s 2014 Treasury of Art Show, numerous 2015 exhibitions and the Winter 2016 Green Spring Gardens juried show.
In June 2015, the Art Guild of Clifton sponsored my first solo art exhibit at the Clifton Wine Shop. Three of my paintings won Fairfax Art League People’s Choice Awards during 2013. I have sold many paintings and done several paintings on commission. One of my paintings is also hanging in a private collection in Paris, France.
I hosted five successful shows at my home studio/gallery in 2014, 2015, and 2016 with several other artists. I teach acrylic painting classes at Northern Virginia Community College’s Lifetime Learning Institute, with the Art Guild of Clifton, and hold group classes in my home studio.I am serving on the Board of Advisors of the Vienna Arts Society in 2016.
